Want to read some good books on personal finance? Jeremy at Generation X Finance listed 20 books that will change your life and how you think about retirement. A lot of catchup for me at least because I, sadly, didn’t read any of them

Ben at Money Smart Life last week went to a conference in Las Vegas. He enjoyed his trip and offered his tips on how to save money in Sin city, a place where you don’t need to worry about how to spend money

Lazy Man at Lazy Man and Money had something to say about what he called “smart gambling.” Well, if it’s a gamble, then it’s a gamble. I don’t see why one gamble is smarter or better than another unless you win.

After deciding to quit her job early on, Silicon Valley Blogger at The Digerati Life went through the process of actually leave the job she had in the past five years and shared what she did in her last day at work. Good luck, SVB!

FMF at Free Money Finance gave his takes on the seven habits of wealth.

NCN at No Credit Needed talked about the frustration of what and which we must deal with in reality.

MBH at Mighty Bargain Hunter warned of high-priced seminars and suggested invest time instead.

Super Saver at My Wealth Builder has some great ideas to maximize social security payments.

Mossy at Business Is Personal (Finance) is running a series of investment spreadsheet, in which he discusses how to use spreadsheet to develop models from 401(k) contributions to variable annuities.

Grant at The Corner Office Blog had a savvy real estate investment idea: short sale. That’s something quite new to me.

I heard investing in bonds, which is considered as safe heaven, actually is in the long term.

Ben at Money Smart Life described his flood pain and how he researched for flood insurance. I am glad that’s not one thing I need to worry about now.

Lazy Man at Lazy Man and Money explained why he thinks this is the time that fortunes are made. Of course, it takes a lot of courage to buy stocks when the headline suggested a recession is on the horizon.

Silicon Valley Blogger at The Digerati Life said they are going to cut their budget by 25% in their latest frugal moves. Do you have a budget? I rely more on my self control than on hard numbers

FMF at Free Money Finance cited an Bankrate.com article that explains the impact of credit accounts on credit score.

NCN at No Credit Needed asked if there’s any area in personal finance that you want to improve.

MBH at Mighty Bargain Hunter talked about how streamlining your list process can help you make money on eBay.

TFB at The Financial Buff discussed how to avoid overdraft fees. I always have enough money in my bank account (which is suggested), so I was never hit by such a fee.

The Dividend Guy shared some investing lessons that can be learned from all-you-can-eat buffet.

Finally, I learned a trick from Lifehacker.com on how to speedup the monthly bill paying process. I used to spent a lot of time clicking one bookmark after another. Now I hope I can cut it down, though I still have to pay the bills one by one.

Ben at Money Smart Life suggested buy stuff in the off season to save money. Sure, lot of people shop after Christmas to prepare for next Christmas’s gifts and decorations.

There are many ways to improve your credit score. In fact, as many as 15 ways to get a better score, according Jeremy at Generation X Finance. Don’t be late, that’s the rule #1!

Market downturn made you nervous? Silicon Valley Blogger at The Digerati Life told how a down market could be good for your investment. Is she saying “buy low”?

Lazy Man at Lazy Man and Money reviewed his IRA options and revealed what he considered before rolling his old 401(k) to a Zecco IRA account. Cost is definitely my top concern for investments in my IRA.

NCN at No Credit Needed reminded us that there are still time to open an IRA account. The deadline is April 15th, not December 31st.

What to buy a foreclosed house? FMF at Free Money Finance gave 5 steps to make a purchase.

MBH at Mighty Bargain Hunter asked how strong your piggy bank is. Interesting analogies!

Jonathan at My Money Blog walked through the process of choosing between a fixed and adjustable rate mortgage.

What motivates you to pursue smart personal finance? J.D. at Get Rich Slowly shared his story on taking control of his finance.

Cash Money Life outlined pros and cons of Roth and Traditional IRA and discussed which one makes a right choice.

Finally, Congratulations to David at Money Ning, who just got married over the weekend. To celebrate his wedding, David is giving away $1,500! I never won any contest before, but I entered this one just to try my luck on more time.

What’s Regulation D fee? I have no idea until I read the post on Generation X Finance, where Jeremy explained what transactions could trigger the elusive Regulation D savings account fee.

If you are interested in investing in real estate, be sure to check out the post, 7 Things to Consider As a First Time Real Estate Investor, by Silicon Valley Blogger at The Digerati Life. The housing market is currently pretty bad, but the slump could drag on for extended period. So know what you are buying and when to buy it.

How do you prepare your taxes? Do it yourself with tax preparation software such as TurboTax or TaxCut, or hire a professional to do the work for you? Ben at Money Smart Life offered some tips on choosing an accounant.

Lazy Man at Lazy Man and Money disclosed that he has bought more private stock. He also discussed what he expected from his purchases.

In order to get out of debt, NCN at No Credit Needed suggested going back to the basics such as knowing clearly the debt situation and making more than necessary payments, etc.

FMF at Free Money Finance gave two examples of what seems to be obvious: saving money by asking for a discount.

Along the same line as the Silicon Valley Blogger’s post, MBH at Mighty Bargain Hunter said Yes, you can own a home.

What’s the right amount to donate to charity? That’s the question asked by Madam X at My Open Wallet. I don’t have the answer, but I am trying to do what I can to help, large or small.

Waiting for the tax rebate check? It won’t get in your hands before the summer, so don’t spend the money before it even arrives, said Mrs. Micah.

Grad Money Matters talked about student debt and entitilement attitude.

Finally, Silicon Valley Blogger at The Digerati Life has an easy way to guarantee you a 6-figure income online

For short-term obligation, my favorite way to borrow the money is to get 12-month 0% APR credit card.

Jeremy at Generation X Finance answered reader’s question about whole lift insurance and concludes that a term policy may be a better choice.

Lazy Man at Lazy Man and Money was surprised when an email he received declares “Prosper beats S&P 500.” Well, they can choose to tweak the data the way they want to make their business look appealing, it’s still not for me.

Golbguru at Money, Matter, and More Musings examined the relationship between intelligence and wealth and found that good financial management doesn’t necessarily require high intelligence. It does, however, need discipline.

Silicon Valley Blogger at The Digerati Life shared a story on how NOT to promote yourself or your business if you want to success, plus a list of recommendations on what should be done.

Jim at Blueprint for Financial Prosperity talked about how you should compare salaries and reminded us it’s never a good to compare ourselves with others.

FMF at Free Money Finance posted how much money you can borrow to build your own home plus a book giveaway.

Nickel at Five Cent Nickel had something to say on how to make money in stock market.

JLP at AllFinancialMatters responded to an “advice” which suggested whenever one feels nervous about the fluctuation of the stock market, get out and wait “for at least three weeks, then wait until I started feeling confident about the stock market again.” Wow! What if the market drops again right after getting back in after three weeks? Get out, wait, then jump back in again? MBH at Might Bargain Hunter also joined the discussion with his own reasonings. Investing is not gambling. Why let emotion control your investment behavior? Why not develop a diversified portfolio based on risk tolerance, return expectation and investment time frame and stick to it?

Finally, I participated last weeks Carnival of Personal Finance hosted at The Simple Dollar with my post on how FNBO made me feel uncomfortable of doing business with them. I also contributed to Festival of Stocks held at Fully Stocked. My post discussed the newly IPOed Chinese stock EJ (E-House Holdings).

It seems that the majority of the people who responded belongs to the buy-and-hold camp.

Lazy Man at Lazy Man and Money wonders if anything comes with electronics nowadays. If you have to buy a printer cable separately when you buy a printer, then I’d say maybe nothing.

Silicon Valley Blogger at The Digerati Life explains how to profit from the weak dollar. On top of her suggestions, maybe you can buy (or invest in) gold as gold could be used to hedge against the falling dollar.

Golbguru at Money, Matter, and More Musings lists 12 things he won’t spend a dime on. We have a manufacture installed GPS navigation system in our van and we love it. It saved a lot of headache, and time and fuel.

Ben at Money Smart Life says time is money and reveals his plan to stop wasting time and money. Yes, it pays to be efficient, both on and off the job.

Jim at Blueprint for Financial Prosperity has 10 reasons to go with credit and debt cards. I am a credit card person, so I can use five of them.

Nickel at Five Cent Nickel talks about money and happiness. I remember read somewhere before that money can indeed buy happiness.

FMF at Free Money Financing asks Who’s to Blame for America’s Mortgage Mess? Lenders? Or ourselves?

MBH at Mighty Bargain Hunter continues his making money on eBay series. This time he discusses how to start your own business on eBay.

Ask The Advisor has a nice article on how to retire early.

Investor Trip suggests raising cash to profit from short-term stock market corrections.

Finally, I participated in last week’s Carnival of Personal Finance hosted at My Open Wallet with my post on credit card arbitrage and credit score.

I am a fan of DRIP and currently investing in several stocks via DRIP programs. However, the appeal of DRIP now is not as strong as before as free dividend reinvestment is very common with discount brokerages and the introduction of commission free trading such as Zecco* could eliminate the need of DRIP.

Silicon Valley Blogger asks “I’m frugal, so why can’t I save more money?” Very interesting discussion. Looking at myself, I don’t think I did very well in the spending-control part as well as I found myself in the “Eating out tonight has no affect on going out the rest of the week” category, though we don’t eat out that often.

Golbguru at Money, Matter and More Musings takes a look at Best Buy’s “Back To School Tech List” and declares that “it is essentially a big load of crap.” I wonder why so many tech gears are “essentials for college life.”

Jeremy at Generation X Finance suggests strategies to profit from a down market: short selling. I have never used the technique before in my stock trading. Perhaps I should use it as some of my stocks are going nowhere but down

Ben at Money Smart Life has an idea of showing your spouse you care and it’s making spousal IRA contribution.

FMF at Free Money Finance is surprised by the fact that there are 60 million adult Americans don’t pay taxes at all.

Jim at Blueprint for Financial Prosperity felt the pain of recent market turmoil and unloaded his Vanguard Target Retirement 2050 investment.

MBH at Mighty Bargain Hunter has another good reason to buy a car with cash: you don’t have to get anybody’s approval when it’s available.

Nickel at Five Cent Nickel says Capital One sucks slightly less now as they starts to report credit limit instead of the actual balances.

Jonathan at My Money Blog has a nice calculator to calculate the profit from credit card 0% balance transfer.

Mapgirl at Mapgirl’s Fiscal Challenge says she’s a better saver than a debtor and asks what about you?
