Where to Buy 2009 Tax Software
There are still nearly three months away from the 2010 tax deadline, but it’s not too early to start prepare to file your 2009 income taxes, especially if you expect a refund. If you plan to do your own taxes this year, whether this is the first time or you have done it for many years, a tax preparation software will make your job a lot easier.
As where to buy your 2009 tax software, you can always get it from the makers, Intuit and H&R Block. However, you may not get the best deal when you shop directly from them. For example, Intuit offers TurboTax Deluxe Federal with efile for $29.95 on this website. If you also want to file state return, you will need to pay an additional $36.95. That isn’t really cheap comparing to what you can get from other retailers. One benefit of using Intuit directly is that you can file 1040EZ for free on their website if you have a simple tax return and if you also want to file state return, it will only cost you $27.95 more. Intuit’s chief competitor H&R Block also offers free version of their tax software. Of course, you can always use TaxAct, which has been free for filing federal taxes for a long time.
If you don’t want to buy tax preparation software from Intuit or H&R Block directly, there are some retailers also carry the both software. Following is a list of sites where you can buy both TurboTax and TaxCut, now called H&R Block At Home. Obviously, the list is far from complete. I plan to keep it updated as new deals or promotions come up.

Costco
In addition to these retailers, you can also get the software at a discount from institutions which you have a business relationship with. For example, I have a savings account with Capital One and it’s offering 25% off if I get TurboTax through Capital One. Bank of America also has a better offer at 35% discount for its customers. It’s always a good idea to check which one has the best deal before making the purchase.
BTW, TurboTax is offering some useful tax tips to help you prepare your tax filing this season:
