I know INGDirect is no longer a leader in online savings interest rates now as it used to be. With current rate at 4.40% [find out the latest online savings account interest rates here], ING is not comparable with other banks such as HSBC and EmigrantDirect, where I put most of our cash to earn a 5.05% APY. The only ING account I have now is the one I opened for my daughter with her as the primary account holder. Early this year, I was searching for bank accounts for minors, but none of the major banks offer I was looking for. So eventually, I settled with ING.

But if you still want to open an ING Direct Orange Savings account, you can use the reference code CK921/gheaeriz (valid before December 31, 2006). With a minimum deposit of $250, you’ll get $25 bonus and I will receive $10 from ING as well. Actually, if you have a young child and want to get a savings account with him/her as primary account holder, you can open an account first (if you don’t already have one) and use yourself as a reference for your child’s account to get another $35 bonus ($25 for your child and $10 for you). With a total deposit of $500, the bonus money you can collect is $60. Not a bad deal! I did in this way for my daughter’s account and the $35 bonus was credited immediately, without any holding period.
