Online discount broker OptionsHouse is offering free 1-year subscription to Barrons.com when you open a brokerage account with the firm. This promotion is similar to the 1-year free WSJ.com subscription that OptionsHouse offered last year. Basically, you open an OptionsHouse account, make an initial deposit of $1,000 ore more, then receive a complimentary 1-year subscription to the online version of Barrons.com for free.
I have a very small account with Options House that I opened nearly two years ago. While I like the broker quite well in general, I am quite disappointed after it recently increased its stock commission from $2.95 to $3.95 because low commission cost is one of the main reasons that I opened my account. $3.95 is still pretty low, but the change seems to against the recent trend among bigger names in the brokerage industry when they started to lower commission rates and even offer commission free ETFs. I would rather OptionsHouse start with $3.95/trade and keep it.
