Chase Freedom Card $200 Bonus: It IS Real
Post viewed 2547 times, 3 so far today
In March, I applied for a Chase Freedom card after seeing their $250 bonus after first purchase ads. It sounds like a pretty sweet deal. However, when I received the card, I was a little bit confused about exactly what was offered as incentive. It wasn’t clear to me whether I will have to spend $6,700 in order to earn $200 cash backs, that can be redeemed for $250, or I will get $200 bonus right after my first purchase. But I went ahead and used card to make purchase at gas stations and grocery stores. The 3% cash back offer is better than any other cards I have and the best part is: I indeed got $200 bonus after the first purchase!

Now that I got the bonus which can be redeemed for $250, I might take advantage of the 12-month 0% balance transfer offer. To get the maximum benefit, I need to move credit lines from three other Chase cards (only move the credits, not close the accounts) to the Freedom card and make a big, fat balance transfer that could top $50,000 with a $75 maximum fee.
Yeah, I am seriously considering the move.

Yeah, I got the 200 in rewards and “purchased” the $250 check and it arrived at my house within a week. After 1 billing statement, I have $23 in rewards. So it looks like I can get a $250 check every 8-9 months.
Sadly, I don’t think you get rewards on balance transfers. If you did, I would transfer $50k back and forth every day (and get $500 in rewards each time).
I got my $250 check as well from this bonus. WTG Chase!
I just got my statement in the mail and cannot see the Bonus rewards. Looks like I have to call them up

I know from personal experience. You will not receive rewards dollars for balance transfers. Reward dollars are only earned on new purchases. Please read your terms and agreement or your rewards brochure that you received when you opened your account. It specifically states it.
Tracie: Yes, there will be no rewards for balance transfers. Actually, the balance transfer I mentioned is only for taking the free loan for several months, not for their rewards. Their rewards program is quite good actually and whenever you accumulate $200 rewards, you can redeem for $250. Quite attractive.
