CitiBusiness ThankYou® Card

In the past, I have wrote about different versions of credit cards from Citibank that offer cardholders ThankYou Points as rewards, including Citi ThankYou® Preferred Card – Bonus Point Offer, which I own. Those are the cards for people with excellent credit who are looking for credit cards with decent rewards. With those Citi ThankYou cards, members are able to earn cash back for using their cards on everyday purchases.

The Preferred Card and Premier Card are not the only ThankYou cards you can get from Citi. If you are a business owner, Citi also has a CitiBusiness ThankYou® Card  tailored for business owners. It allows you to earn more rewards points for business purchases, in addition to rewards from everyday purchases, ideal for small business owners. Basically, you will receive 1 ThankYou Point for every dollar you spend and if it’s an item for your business that you purchased, the rewards jump to 3 ThankYou Points per dollar, which is pretty nice for a business card. What I think is quite unique about the CitiBusiness ThankYou℠ Card is that, like how most other rewards credit cards are changing their rewards categories, it also has rotating business categories that change every three months. For 2012, the business rewards categories are:

  • January-March: Office supply merchants, advertising services and professional services
  • April-June: Computer equipment merchants, software merchants and telecommunications merchants
  • July-September: Airlines, hotels and car rental merchants
  • October-December: Restaurants and entertainment

Remember, only when you make business purchases that falls in the above rewards categories during that specific three-month period, you are able to receive 3 ThankYou Points per dollar. Otherwise, the reward will be 1 Point per dollar, just like any other eligible regular purchases you made with the card. With the CitiBusiness ThankYou℠ Card, you will not pay an annual fee and there’s no limit no how many ThankYou Points you can earn, and the Points you earned don’t expire, as long as you keep the card in good standing. Points earned from using the card can be used to redeem for a variety of things, such as gift cards, merchandises, and travel,  for either your business or yourself.

If you are interested in CitiBusiness ThankYou® Card, you will want to take advantage of the current promotional offer of $150 bonus from Citi. To get the bonus for new customer, you will need to first apply and get approved for the card, then spend at least $3,000 on purchases with the card within the first three months of card membership. The bonus will be given in the forms of 15,000 ThankYou Points, which is redeemable for a $150 gift card.

In addition to rewards points from purchases, you can also get extra Anniversary Bonus at the end of each CitiBusiness ThankYou℠Card account membership year. The Anniversary Bonus are calculated based on the  ThankYou Points you earned during the year as follows:

  • Membership Year 0-1: 1% anniversary bonus
  • Membership Year 1-2: 2% anniversary bonus
  • Membership Years 2 and after: 3% anniversary bonus

So the longer you remain a cardholder, the more extra rewards points you will receive :)

This is a sign-up bonus. A very enticing one. And the cash back is at 5%. A friend of mine who had one of the Citi’s credit card found out that she’s not eligible for this card. This is just sad.

Looking at the numbers, the Blue Cash Preferred℠ card from American Express is by far offering the highest cash back rate which is at 6%. It makes me wonder where they get that 6%.

    Best regards,
