Discover Revises Its Miles Card Reward Program
The mail I received yesterday from Discover regarding the Discover Miles reward program says starting April, card members can enjoy more benefits with the “completely redesigned” reward program. The card, renamed to the Miles by Discover Card, will offer more flexibilities for cardholders to earn and spend the rewards. Here’s a comparison between the old and new benefits:
| Previous Benefits | New Benefits |
| 60,000 miles cap | Unlimited miles that never expire as long as you use your card |
| 1 mile for every $1 spend | 2 miles for every $1 spent on up to $3,000 in travel and restaurant purchases each year; 1 mile for every $1 spent on all other purchases |
| Book travel through Redemption Center | Book travel through any airline, travel agent or online travel site you choose |
| Travel credit for airfare only starting at 10,000 miles | Travel credits for airfare, cruises, hotels, rental cars, vacation packages and more starting at just 5,000 miles |
| Must redeem before you travel | Redeem before or after you travel – within 90 days after your travel purchases post to your account |
| Cash redemption – get credit to your account only | Cash redemption – get credit to your account or direct deposit to your bank account |
| Redeem for gift cards and merchandise starting at 2,400 miles | Redeem for brand-name gift cards starting at just 1,000 miles |
I have a Miles card that I got last year for 0% balance transfer and the sign on bonus. Though I have no plan to make the card my everyday purchase card, the new benefit program certainly looks much better than the previous program.
