Good news for 55 million social security benefit recipients who are looking forward to the one-time $250 economic recovery payment.
I mentioned early that the Social Security Administration plans to issue the checks to SSI recipient this month. Now it looks like the waiting is over. An announcement on the SSA website says that first payment checks have been issued today:
On May 7, 2009, the federal government issued the first economic recovery payments to people receiving Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits. The payments are being issued on a staggered basis throughout the month of May. Please do not contact us unless you have not received your payment by June 4, 2009.
The payments are distributed by the organization who also deliver the social security benefits. If you have other questions such as eligibility of the payment, make sure you check SSA’s Q&A section. You can find answers to most of your questions there.
