NURU Personal Finance Cards and a Giveaway

Are you looking for a quick reference card that explains the basic concepts of personal finance?

NURU personal finance cardsI received a deck of NURU Personal Finance cards from the publisher a while ago, but have been putting off taking a look at it until now. Actually, I think this, putting some basic concepts of personal finance on 2.5″x3.5″ cards, is a pretty good idea because you can carry the cards wherever you go and get a quick reference whenever you want. Very convenient.

The deck consists of 28 cards organized in 7 categories:

  • Essential Vocabulary
  • Personal Planning
  • Investing
  • Loans
  • Retirement Vehicles
  • Credit
  • Insurance

So what kind of concepts are covered in the cards? For instance, one of the cards in the Essential Vocabulary category explains Compound Interest, which “is the interest you receive on interest you’ve already earned.” After giving simple example on how compound interest works, the card also shows a Quick Fact of compounding, which is quite interesting:

Money that is invested at 10% interest compounded annually will double every 7 years!

Not that you can earn 10% interest from investments now, but that’s indeed how compounding works, as long as you can find the investment that gives you 10% real return :)

Sounds interesting?

I still have that deck of cards and I want to give it away to one who can use it because, and I quote from NURU,

The purpose of Personal Finance is to give you the knowledge you need to make strong, smart financial decisions and to take control of your financial future.

To enter to win the card, all you need to do is leave a comment on this post with a valid email address before January 1, 2009. A winner will be selected randomly at that time.

BTW, I had to open the package to check out the cards, but they are brand new :)
