According to The Tax Foundation, New York and New Jersey top the list of median property taxes in the nation. The 15 counties with highest property taxes are:
- Westchester County, NY - $7,337
- Nassau County, NY - $7,025
- Hunterdon County, NJ - $6,988
- Bergen County, NJ - $6,846
- Essex County, NJ - $6,642
- Rockland County, NY - $6,527
- Morris County, NJ - $6,478
- Somerset County, NJ - $6,465
- Putnam County, NY - $6,335
- Union County, NJ - $6,312
- Passaic County, NJ - $6,210
- Suffolk County, NY - $6,131
- Monmouth County, NJ - $6,015
- Hudson County, NJ - $5,472
- Lake County, IL - $5,393
