Do you still remember Revolution Money Exchange?

It has been a while since I mentioned it here last time. Actually, it probably has been even a longer time since I last used the service, which was renamed to Serve from American Express after American Express purchased Revolution Money, the online payment service provider similar to Paypal, in January 2010. In the past, I used the service quite a lot to send payments, but stopped all together and emptied my account after the purchase was announced because I didn’t want to pay any fee for using the service, or any other change that may have happened, after it was turned over to AMEX. But my account has been kept alive and I am continuously receiving monthly statement. I even got a replacement Serve.com card last year.

Serve from American ExpressBefore, it was purchased by AMEX, you could use Revolution Money Exchange to send and receive money from people who also have RME accounts. And since RME also issued its customers a physical card, you could also make payments with the RME card at retail stores where it was accepted (the number of stores accepting RME payments was rather limited at the time when I used the service). Now, under the Serve name and ownership of AMEX, its functions have changed, becoming a digital prepaid account. Of course, you can still use it to send payments as you could when it was RME (either via web or by using an app that’s available for iPhone, Andriod, and Windows phones). Serve even has a Facebook app that allows you to send and receive money directly on Facebook, if you choose to do that. But there seems to be more. Since now the Serve card bears the American Express logo, the card is accepted anywhere AMEX is accepted, having a much wider acceptance than what RME has before. Plus, you can also make ATM withdrawals using your Serve card and AMEX will waive the $2 transaction fee for the first withdrawal every month (however, fees charged by banks that own the ATMs are your own responsibility).

If this sounds interesting to you, you can now get $25 free money when you sign up for Serve and make a single purchase with Serve of $25 or more before August 31, 2012. Since Serve is now a prepaid account, not a credit account, there’s no credit check to apply for it and there’s no monthly fee and no annual fee.

Check out Serve.com to learn about the service and get the $25 free money :)
