Hope you enjoy these articles as well:

  • My Two Dollars talked about run-flat tires and said the benefits far outweigh the costs. If my car has those, I probably won’t consider them as necessary from the cost-and-benefit point of view. But they are convenient. And talking about convenience, my wife never had a flat tire in the past 8 years since she started driving :)
  • Money Ning gave some suggestions on how to reduce your taxes forever. I do my own taxes and, yes, a tax software is a must to keep up with changes in tax laws. And I can deduct the cost of the software from my federal tax.
  • Brip Blap summarized how to become a billionaire (yes, it’s a b) after reading a story on Forbes and one of the items is “Go east, young man” because that’s where the opportunities are.
  • Advanced Personal Finance has a better idea about what to give to a new born baby, a deposit to the baby’s 529 account. Seriously.
  • My Money Blog suggested that Morningstar’s stewardship rating is better than the stars it rewards funds and stocks. I usually don’t look at a fund’s star rating and that’s probably the reason I didn’t notice the stewardship rating.

Thanks for the mention!

And I should have mentioned that “go east, young man” could just as easily been “go east, young woman” – the richest person in China is a woman, after all: (from the Economic Times) Yang Huiyan, whose father runs the Hong Kong-listed Country Garden Holdings Ltd. for which he is an executive director of the board, has a fortune of 130 billion yuan (about $17 billion), nearly twice as much as the person in second place.

Yang graduated from the Marketing and Logistics Department of Ohio State University and joined Country Garden as an assistant to her father Yang Guoqiang, then CEO of the company, in 2005.

Thanks for the mention! I could have also said “go east, young woman” – the richest person in China is a female graduate of Ohio State University, believe it or not!

I gave my nephew a 529 for being born and I really think it will be one of smarter things I’ve ever done.
