Capital One Online Savings Account $50 Bonus

Posted by Sun on October 7, 2009 (3) Comment

Capital One Direct is offering $25 bonus for its Online Savings Account and Money Market Account.
I opened a Capital One Savings Account last year when the rate was much higher and much attractive than the current rate of 1.60% APY. To give you an idea of where Capital One is in terms of rate, take [...]

ING Direct Business Account $50 Promotion

Posted by Sun on September 25, 2009 (1) Comment

I opened a PNC Business Checking Account early this year for the little business I am running.  The reasons I had the account with PNC are that 1) they have a branch office in our neighborhood, so it’s easy to make a deposit; 2) the account has low balance requirement and no monthly fees; 3) [...]

EverBank Money Market Account Opened

Posted by Sun on August 20, 2009 (2) Comment

a long time ago.
When I updated our July net worth early this month, I mentioned that I opened another savings account. That’s was barely one month after I got an account from Ally Bank. The reason is that I became extremely disappointed by Ally Bank, not only because of all the troubles I had with [...]

Time to Dump Ally Bank

Posted by Sun on July 10, 2009 (4) Comment

I decided to end my short relationship with Ally Bank, though not completely.
For the two weeks that I banked with Ally, I felt very disappointed about the bank, not only because the trouble it caused during the process when I was opening my second CD account last week, which is very discouraging, [...]

WTDirect, one of the popular online banks, is running a promotion again that, for a limited time, will give up to $150 bonus for every new account.
The bank had run a few similar promotions in the past and from what I can see, the promotions were quite successful in generating interests. The yield of WTDirect [...]

I Hate IGoBanking

Posted by Sun on June 23, 2009 (4) Comment

It looks like I made a big mistake about two months ago when I moved all my money from Dollar Savings Direct to IGoBanking.
I have left IGoBanking a long time ago, but moved back in April after seeing their actually increased the rate of their savings account from 1.85% APY to 2.12% APY, the highest [...]

American Express Online Savings Account 2% APY

Posted by Sun on June 16, 2009 (2) Comment

Here’s another high-yield savings account offer, even though the rate isn’t as good as the rate from Ally Bank I mentioned last week.
The new offer is the High-Yield Savings Account from American Express. The credit card issuer received permission from the Fed to become a bank holding company last November. Right now the savings account [...]

Ally Bank Made Significant Rate Changes

Posted by Sun on June 5, 2009 (5) Comment

People always say good things will come to an end, but for Ally Bank, the good things lasted too short and the end came a little too fast.
Just two days ago, I praised Ally Bank for offering very attractive rates for its products, including savings account, money market account, and CD, when the trend for [...]

EverBank Raises Money Market Account Bonus Rate to 3.01%

Posted by Sun on June 4, 2009 (6) Comment

EverBank, one of the banks that I talked about quite often here, has increased its bonus rate for its Money Market Account from 2.51% to 3.01% this week. The bonus rate is good for the first three months after the account is opened and funded. The current rate after the introductory period is 1.83%.
EverBank has [...]

Is the Fed Going to Determine Savings Account Interest Rates?

Posted by Sun on June 2, 2009 (5) Comment

Do you still remember to what happened to Washington Mutual last year?
On September 22, 2008, WaMu surprised many people by offering one of the highest interest rates for its savings account. At 4.0% APY, the yield was very attractive and competitive. However, that didn’t last long. On September 25, WaMu was closed by the Fed [...]
